London Fashion Week will hold an exhibition celebrating Minnie Mouse
This season’s London Fashion Week will honour Disney’s most fashionable mouse by showcasing an exhibition called Minnie: Fashion Icon, running from 18th-20th of September at Blacks members club.
Disney has always had a focus on fashion and its female characters, from Aurora and Cinderella to the more modern Elsa. Their flattering and unforgettable outfits tickled the imagination of many creatives within the fashion industry and there are is no doubt that Minnie has been the one who headed this relationship. With her playful polka dots and wide bow, Miss Minnie Mouse has deeply influenced fashion since her creation – the iconic look has been reinterpreted many times, especially in pop culture.
The exhibition will aim to explore Minnie as a fashionable character and the various ways she has influenced fashion for almost one century, through a wide selection of photographs from the 1930s up to now, including archive images, celebrity portraits and more.
“We are thrilled to be supporting this beautifully curated exhibition dedicated to Minnie Mouse,” stated Caroline Rush, CEO at the British Fashion Council. “The exhibition strives to show how pop culture can inspire fashion and why the London fashion scene is so good at providing a new and creative take on things. Fashion can be very serious, but it should also be fun, which is why this sits so well as part of our official schedule.”
For this particular occasion, Georgia May Jagger, not only wanted to be involved in the curation process, but she will also show an exclusive and brand new series of photographs taken by herself. “As a Minnie fan, I was really interested in helping to curate the Minnie: Style Icon exhibition for London Fashion Week,” said the model. “I’m also really excited to be including my own photographic work in the exhibition, interpreting Minnie’s style in a different way and showing how the classic often inspires the contemporary.”
