Things of make believe come alive at Finest Imaginary
When you were younger you were probably told that the things you imagined weren’t real. At Finest Imaginary all those things have been made a reality in the form of jewellery, notebooks and accessories.
Kim Lawler started Finest Imaginary in 2007. She originally undertook an Interactive Arts BA before she set up the label. Kim has an obsession with stories, monsters and make-believe. She has used her love of all things make-believe to create a succulent collection that you want to get your hands on.
Kim clearly loves make-believe but what inspires her? When asked, she replied, “ I always find it hard to pin down my inspirations, I’m inspired by so many things! I can be watching a nature documentary, a film, reading a book or even just walking down the street when inspiration will strike. I find inspiration in colour, pattern and materials. I find it in words, sayings and the everyday.” So pretty much everything and anything. When she works on a collection she always gathers lots of images relating to the topic. She says sometimes it helps to reign in her inspirations in a little, it helps to focus on what she wants from a collection.
Whether you want something cute and kitsch to wear or something to brighten up your home, Finest Imaginary has something for you. These cupcake lipglosses are brilliant and come in five different variations.
To celebrate all things British this year, this teapot heart necklace or this London bus necklace are the perfect gift.
Kim is passionate about what she sells and when asked to choose her favourite piece she said, “My current favourite item is the bear necklace, it was the first design that I feel conveys my illustrations in plastic form.” The necklace really does look like Kim’s drawing has come to life.
In future when somebody tells you things from your imagination aren’t real, point them in the direction of Finest Imaginary.
