Ming Pin Tien: Bye Bye Youth A/W’13
Ming Pin Tien is a London based designer and has recently completed a MA in Fashion Design & Technology at London College of Fashion. His latest collections Portrait for S/S’13 and Bye Bye Youth for A/W’13 display a variety of interesting designs whilst still holding onto his signature style; oversized yet beautifully considered silhouettes.
Ming’s pieces are wearable proof that he truly is a master of pattern cutting, and you only have to click onto the Ming website to see this for yourself. The site is simple, clean yet immediately intriguing (a lot like his designs) with his A/W’13 collection Bye Bye Youth catwalk being played on the homepage- instantly drawing you in.
The Bye Bye Youth collection displays Ming’s raw talent for design in an artistic form, where the pieces on show take on contradictory ideas such as peace and war, maturity and youth, black and white, – it’s a collection of contrast, an oxymoron of fashion imagery that works so wonderfully well. The collection on one hand reflects strength, boldness and rebellion through broad, oversized cuts and religious wordplay/imagery infused onto the pieces. On the other hand, the use of pastel colours and 50s inspired pleats bring back a feel of femininity and maturity. The abstract patency, beautiful back detail and clean colours make this collection so timeless yet so contemporary.
A gorgeous crimson red runs throughout the S/S’13 collection Portrait, where once again Ming’s trademark cuts are showcased through high-low hemmed dresses, oversized capes and armour-esque coats.
Ming clothing is something truly refreshing and innovative for high fashion, which is rightly being highly recognised already with pieces being featured in the likes of Vogue Italia and Idol magazine. His collections are visually stimulating which you have to see to appreciate.
