The “Skate Moss Boot”: Ice skate or walk?
Heels aren’t usually associated with the word ‘ice skate’ but high-end fashion label DSQUARED2 is trying to change that misconception. In a world where the line between fashion and function wears thin, this wildly popular label is pushing the boundaries by adding blades to four pairs of high – and I mean high – heeled boots from their latest Autumn/Winter 2011 collection. It makes perfect sense since DSQUARED2 designers Dean and Dan Caten hail from the land of ice skating, Canada.
For those fashionistas out there who are looking to make a fashion statement and set yourself apart from the crowd, this may be your answer. With prices ranging from $891 for the Ankle Bootie style, to the big-ticket item the Knee-high Boot – currently retailing at $1,497- you too can have the possible ankle twisting chance to strut the streets in what is sure to be a conversation starter.
These boots are designed to have the look and feel of traditional ice skates complete with laces and hooks but armed with one small detail of a teetering 4’5” heel. Although these ‘Skate Moss’ boots have an authentic skate look, they are for show only and should not be used for actual skating, just try to wear them. This alone should be challenging enough.
