Abercrombie & Fitch pull offensive Taylor Swift tee
It seems that Abercrombie & Fitch just can’t keep out of the Internet’s bad books these days. What with the CEO still batting away insults for his comment on “going after the cool kids”, the company’s PR has taken a turn for the worst. On top of the elitist controversy, Taylor Swift fans the world over have taken out a vendetta against the company for one of their T-shirts.
The T-shirt reads “# more boyfriends than t.s.”, and since the wave of hate against it, has been pulled from the shelves. Someone clearly wasn’t thinking when this apparent joke about the singer/songwriters’ love life was published on thousands of T-shirts by the chain store. Despite the potential truth for the comment, publishing anyone’s personal life on clothing to sell could be perceived as a bit of a faux pas.
This lapse in judgment could not have gone unnoticed, as Taylor Swift, who is yet to comment on the affair, has millions of fans to speak out on her behalf. In fact so many TS fans complained about the T-shirt that Abercrombie & Fitch added a personalised message to their phone line:
“Thank you for calling Abercrombie & Fitch public relations. If you are calling regarding the Taylor Swift T-shirt, please note this is no longer available.”
Once again the power of the Internet prevails over mild injustice, as fans created a petition on change.org asking for the product to be withdrawn and a particularly offended fan made a YouTube video speaking out against the company, which received 11,000 hits in three days.
