LFW – Tessa Edwards S/S 2014 collection

After having launched her brand in 2011, Tessa Edwards has already managed to make quite a name for herself. For her SS14 collection, Tessa introduced a collation of outfits that all represented the sport-chic trend, with a focus on structures and silhouettes.

Choosing to showcase her collection at Trafalgar Square’s The Crypt, the show began with film pieces, reminiscent of plasma balls and jewels. This abstract concept was also translated onto the clothes in forms of embroidery, which left us feeling slightly tingly.

Sheer organza made an appearance; not that we expected anything less, for it is a common trend for SS14. Ruffles added extra dimensions and structure to the designs and sportswear, another big trend for SS14, was clearly an inspiration for this collection. We saw jerseys and tracksuit-shorts, layers with organza. Airtex fabrics also made an appearance, indicating that the collection has a casual and slightly urban feel.

Aesthetic shoe designs made with blocks of wood with ribbon detailing gave an emphasis on structure and height, giving a slightly dictatorial feel as the models literally strutted down the catwalk.

All in all, this was a very ambitious collection from Edwards, but coming from a designer who is known for her visionary aesthetic and ways of challenging the conformity in consumerist fashion, we’d expect nothing less.
