Cadbury Milk sweetens up fashion week with a chocolate dress
With purple being the new black, it only seemed fitting that the brand most associated with purple – Cadbury’s – should be at the top of everybody’s wish lists with their one-off Cadbury Dairy Milk “Wrapper” dress.
In a fusion of chocolate and fashion, Cadbury’s partnered up with “Why So Serious” designer Terri-Leigh Finnegan to produce the dress, which is impressively made up with 1,000 wrappers. Hand-sewn, the dress took a week for a team of two to create, along with a complementary clutch bag made out of 65 Cadbury Dairy Milk chocolate miniatures.
Championing the distinctive purple, which has been associated with the brand since 1905, the dress definitely impressed the crowds at Somerset House during London Fashion Week, at which the dress was unveiled.
Designer Terri-Leigh Finnegan said: “The combination of fashion and food has always been a curiosity of mine, and I love experimenting with new materials. It has definitely been a great moment for me to design for such an iconic brand such as Cadbury. Rich purple hues are on trend for autumn/winter 2013 and the colour purple has a great royal heritage. I have blended this autumn/winter 2013 colour palette with the spring/summer 2014 boxy shape that was popular in the 60s. This ties in brilliantly with the Cadbury brand as it nods to its rich history that spans over 100 years.”
Kate Wall, brand manager for Cadbury Dairy Milk, adds: “Cadbury has championed the colour purple for well over 100 years, so you can imagine our excitement when we caught a glimpse of the upcoming fashion trends. We are really excited to be showcasing our iconic colour purple during London Fashion Week and partnering with rising design star, Terri-Leigh Finnegan, to spread joy to fashionistas across the country. The dress and bag really are a great way of celebrating the best of British food and fashion.”
