Dysfunctional designs from Chelsea Bravo
Chelsea Bravo’s latest collection, Dysfunction, is a fresh and modern clothing line with a great back story and even better pieces.
Based in London, Chelsea Bravo was set up by the name sake after she graduated from Rochester University in 2010. After gaining a degree in fashion design, Bravo interned with Christopher Shannon and Martine Rose. Having gained enough knowledge and experience from the NEWGEN winners, the Chelsea Bravo label was born and a contemporary clothing line was created.
Chelsea finds inspiration in many places, including her own emotions and claims that at the time she was designing the Dysfunction line, “dysfunction” was an emotion she was feeling. This offers a certain sentiment to the pieces and gives them a far more personal feel. Bravo also states that each new line is a reflection of how she has grown as a designer, and the Dysfunction pieces are a progression report of how far she has come.
The name also derives from the mix of shapes and cuts used throughout the collection; a dysfunctional yet effective fusion of modern silhouettes and crisp colours with some serious urban culture and central African influence. The shades remain calm with white taking centre stage, meaning the pieces remain timeless and can work as staples for any wardrobe; the African theme is also prevalent and works as a classic element in stark contrast to the contemporary colours, metallic detailing and geometric prints.
Chelsea Bravo has managed to combine beautifully traditional African cuts with on-trend styling to produce fashionably wearable garments with a funky edge; no mean feat.
