The White Hart in Barnes unveils its facelift and exciting new menu
Masterchef finalist Tom Whitaker did a sound job of stunning the judges with his flair and technique and is redirecting his talent to the newly refurbished White Hart, situated on the riverbank in Barnes. The restaurant, as well as the kitchen, has undergone some major changes and its reintroduction onto the London food scene has been a long-awaited one.
Bordered by an almost panoramic view of the Thames and leafy surroundings, the Terrace Kitchen produces food of equal awe. House Charcuterie Selection, Barnes Cure Smoked Salmon (made in their on-site smoke house) and Butter Roasted Quail will help kick-start your meal, while a Glazed Shin of Hereford Beef, Pheasant with Smoke and Hay or even Whole Roasted Dab will make choosing a main difficult, without taking the additional side dishes into account. To finish off, White Hart offers an array of sweet treats, the Fig Choux Buns are surely not to be missed and the Millefeuille of Poached Plums with rosemary ice cream won’t disappoint. The restaurant itself is a pleasure too, with its hard wood floors and big windows circling cosy chairs and booths. It is shaping up to be the place to spend a long leisurely lunch or intimate dinner. And if you are not a local, then the White Hart is a perfect excuse to get out of the city bustle for a while.
The White Hart goes the extra mile to enhance every interaction with the locals, by offering wine tastings, master classes and talks from the suppliers; Tom Whitaker can certainly expect his star to shine a little brighter with this venture. The food, and ethos for that matter, is honest and welcoming and is waving the flag for locally produced British classics. The locals will no doubt offer a warm re-welcome to the White Hart.
