The London Cabaret Club launches at One Mayfair with VIP night
Hosted in the outstanding surroundings of One Mayfair, The London Cabaret Club has taken over the deconsecrated church in the heart of London from 21st to 23rd November, celebrating the launch of the unique pop-up cabaret concept founded by Evelina Girling and Doni Fierro. With the promise of contemporary dance, specialty acts and more fantastic performances taking us on a journey through the best of British, we anticipated a truly exquisite evening.
One Mayfair is a breathtaking building and makes the perfect setting for the glamour and extravagance of The London Cabaret Club. However, it was apparent that guests were discouraged by the front of house staff, who initially offered an uninviting and inhospitable welcome. Nevertheless, once guests had found themselves seated, the waiting staff were eager to provide an ample supply of food and champagne.
Bowl food was provided on the mezzanine level, whilst VIP guests below were treated to an exquisite meal, inspired by the best of British food – Cumberland sausages were drizzled with a delicious red onion marmalade. In attendance were famous faces such as Dame Kelly Holmes, London Cabaret costume designers Clements Ribeiro, Noelle Reno, Lord Harry Dalmeny and more.
Opening performers The Tootsie Rollers dazzled guests with their retro pin-up style, fusing golden-era classics and contemporary numbers such as Blurred Lines and charlstoning away in a sassy rendition of Will.I.Am’s Bang. For the first act, we were treated to a journey through James Bond, from classic Diamonds Are Forever to Skyfall, featuring a breathtakingly daring balancing and silk act by Alesia and Massimo.
A versatile, five-piece band performed classic British numbers such as the Victorian Waltz, I’m Still Standing and Wild Horses beautifully, while magicians, wheel performers and dancing sheep dogs entertained us. Dionne Bromfield gave a sensational vocal performance, along with Alexandra Burke who had guests singing and clapping along to Bad Boys.
Evelina Girling, co-founder and CEO of The London Cabaret Club says: “The original mission of The London Cabaret Club was to offer an evening of spectacular entertainment and a night to remember without the usual stipulations of an event of this calibre. Alexandra Burke and Dionne Bromfield were a fabulous addition to our ‘ever-growing’ London Cabaret Club team.”
Doni Fierro, artistic director and co-founder of The London Cabaret Club says: “We wanted to offer each guest a journey of entertainment throughout the evening. This project has truly been a labour of love and passion from the beginning and it is wonderful to see our vision finally become a reality.”
The night was received more as an evening at the circus than a cabaret, but every guest was enraptured by the skilful performers nevertheless. Pretentious and intimidating door staff aside, this was a wonderful night and an immaculate celebration of British culture.
