Net-A-Porter meets The Hunger Games to create Capitol Couture
As The Hunger Games: Catching Fire hits the big screen, Net-A-Porter have teamed up with the movie’s costume designer Trish Summerville to design a stunning fashion collection inspired by the much-anticipated sequel.
Having only been around since 2000, Net-A-Porter has more than made a name for itself as one of the most popular online designer outlets out there. Presented in the style of a fashion magazine the website offers articles of clothing from Chanel and Dior to Lanvin and Miu Miu.
If, for some reason, you have been living under a rock and are unaware of the fantastic story of The Hunger Games, it is a tale about a young woman (Katniss Everdeen) who bravely takes her sister’s place in “The Hunger Games”, a televised event that features teenagers fighting until death. The rest of the books/movies follow a similar route and show the repercussions of Katniss’ as she starts to fight back against a controlling government.
We are introduced to Katniss as a poor teenager living in the deprived “District 12” but we are also aware of the world outside her small village, a place full of glamour, grandeur and colour – The Capitol.
What Trish Summerville and Net-A-Porter have managed to do is combine these two opposing locations to create a beautiful fashion collection that is reminiscent of Katniss, District 12 and her fellow tributes but with the luxury of The Capitol.
The majority of the 19-piece collection is black with a dash of blue, green and grey brightening up the designs but it is the textures, fabrics and shapes that bring the clothes to life. Fur and leather are prominent with a laser-cut dress and chic but cosy coat being stand-out pieces.
For some, the idea of a film/fashion crossover leaves something to be desired but this Capitol Couture collection is perfectly wearable and with t-shirts starting from just £40, some of the articles aren’t too pricey.
The collection will be available to buy at the end of November, just in time to grab a designer dress for Christmas!
