Tessa Edwards collection presentation for LFW A/W 2014
Tessa Edwards, formerly of Christian Dior and Anne Valerie, held her newest collection presentation at the Drury Club. Using key notes from her fondness of the threshold that lives between fantasy and reality, Edwards utilised unconventional shapes, textures and silhouettes to orchestrate her message of identity as society’s monster.
Focusing on the impact of wealth on creative integrity, Edwards used futuristic palettes and thematic gold calf worship to highlight our use of consumption, and the implicit arrest it has had on our cultural awareness and open-mindedness.
Models monotonously made their way to the end of the catwalk only to veer their mobiles smugly for impromptu selfies. Muzzled, muted and mind controlled by crystal headgear, Edwards used symbolically exaggerated silhouettes to intentionally highlight the growing complacency in creative womenswear.
While the designer’s intent sparks a much-needed discussion on our often overtly gluttonous approach to consumerism and fashion, we fear that the general message may be lost amongst the very excess she is dispelling. We look forward to seeing how this very valid point develops to a wider audience of inadvertently edacious consumers.
