Tried & Tasted: Família Montaño coffee by Pact, part 1
Família Montaño coffee by Pact
London-based Pact source single-origin coffee beans directly from small farmers across the world before roasting in small batches in London. Shipping coffee up to seven days after roasting means that Pact coffee stays fresh for maximum flavour.
Grown on a family-owned farm since 1977, the Família Montaño beans come from a coffee farm situated at 1,460m above sea level in the Bolivian mountains. Along with the high altitude, the region boasts a temperate climate and fertile soil, which provide ideal conditions for growing coffee that is still hand-picked, washed and sun-dried by the Montaño family.
On first taste, the coffee is robust without being too pungent or smoky, with a familiar warmth. Although slightly acidic, the taste also has hints of pistachio nuttiness and a light honey aroma. Deep and rich both in colour and smell, Família Montaño coffee is great for a cafetière, producing a smooth and easy to drink everyday cup of coffee. Its robustness and punch means that it works equally well both as a Sunday morning drink and a mid-afternoon pick-me-up.
When made with a Moka pot however, the coffee develops a soft haziness, leaving a slightly hypnotic flavour, resonant of fragrant beer hops and a deep cigar-like aftertaste. Overall, Família Montaño is a versatile coffee that works well for an early morning espresso, as well as a solid choice for an afternoon cup.
Enjoy with…an almond croissant on a lazy Sunday morning when made from a cafetière, or with a cinnamon bun as an espresso.
