Umasan to take the fashion world by storm with vegan-friendly clothing
The spring/summer 2014 collection from Umasan is a stylishly androgynous collection of modern monochrome pieces.
Run by identical twins Anja and Sandra Umann, Umasan is a Berlin-based fashion label that started around 2010. Vegan-based yet still fabulously chic, these two German sisters have created a new way for high-end fashion labels to work. Choosing to use avant-garde materials such as “SeaCell” and “MicroModal”, Anja and Sandra dismiss the use of cashmere, leather, silk and wool in favour of these animal-friendly fabrics.
The collection itself is also wonderfully real; clearly these two ladies understand what they want to create and they do so with flair. The shapes are fresh, with sleek silhouettes and minimalist styling, it is an extremely modern range of clothes and there are no pops of colour or quirky prints to give it that dash of flavour; it quite simply is not needed.
Somehow they have managed to create relaxed and casual yet chic and slick pieces of clothing that would work just as well in the office as they would for a day off. They combine soft femininity with an androgynous feel and it works so well. There is a great deal of crisp white shorts paired with slouchy black bottoms, heavy drapery partnered with fitted trousers and a sleek shift top with cool white shorts; pairing sleek, chic and feminine with casual, comfortable and mannish results in this fresh collection of ready-to-wear outfits.
