River Island collaborates with Baartmans and Siegel for A/W 2014
River Island has announced its upcoming collaboration with menswear brand Baartmans and Siegel, as part of the high-street retailer’s Design Forum for autumn/winter.
Helmed by British designer Amber Siegel and Dutchman Wouter Baartmans, the luxury label seasonally produces one of the most eagerly anticipated shows on the London menswear schedule. We can hope for the label’s impeccable tailoring and effortless sportswear: lavish fabrics, textures and distinctive silhouettes.
The 12-piece capsule collection draws inspiration from strong male protagonists in literature and cinema, the dystopian works of novelist Philip K Dick and the dark noir of director Michael Mann. Focusing on outwear and tailoring, the essential range includes a structured double-breasted blazer in a wool mix fabric, an oversized parka featuring the brand’s trademark fur trim and wearable covered placket shirts. Slick accessories have also been designed, as well as statement footwear, such as petrol-effect snow boots.
From the few details leaked, the collection looks set to be a powerful one. Siegel explained: “When working on the concept for the collection, we felt it was important for us to carry through our identity of indulgent masculinity with our signature fabrications and refined classic cuts.”
River Island will present a film at London Collections: Men, in June, partnering with Baartmans and Siegel on a project directed by Ryan Hopkinson, as part of the BFC’s Fashion Film programme.
The Baartmans and Siegel/River Island collaborative collection will be available in selected River Island stores and online from September.
