Maria Soromenho: We all want to be rock stars
Nickelback’s blast from the past have you dying to live the lifestyle of a rock star, or maybe you’ve just always had a soft spot for the dark side? Whatever your new-found desire is, Maria Soromenho is the designer to have crowds flee to her this coming season.
Her style is edgy; it cuts corners and is the type of clothing we couldn’t resist mixing with smudged kohl eyeliner. With her newest A/W 2014 collection released, we are all excited to see what sort of commotion this will make, and with her models being from bands, she’s sticking to her roots.
Think black, leather, chains, transparent, gold and then take away any sort of “retro-vampire” thing you’ve got going on in your head, the girl’s got style. Her collection mainly consists of dresses, either floor-length or lingering above the knees. They range from PVC mirror dresses, literally bringing a shine to your step and with the witty name of “let me be your mirror”, to black tassel dresses, a sort of collaboration that Gatsby and KISS with help from Karl Lagerfeld would make. She mixes materials and patterns, but they fit together in harmony; her blue velvet piece has snakeskin print attached to the bottom, but it only increases the appeal of the dress, giving it, yes you guessed it, a perfect edge.
The collection also presents other possibilities, with see-through crop tops and items like pins or glitter placed in them – it’s just genius. The chain that forms the halter neck adds to the appeal of the tops, and in some ways forms the “finishing touch”. These can be paired with some of the skirts that she displays also, with leather maxis that have a split down the side; you could either clash themes and wear it with some simple white stilettos, or go all out and wear gold and black two-part ankle band shoes.
The debut item – the only trouser – is adorned with glitter all over having an amazing concept design and being an item that actually makes other items come to light. This final piece finishes the collection without a flaw.
If this coming autumn you don’t want to settle for the spectrum of autumnal colours, and you want to change the game, then Soromenho is the designer to lay your guitar and your eyeliner down at, with a collection that would make any rock heritage regret their wardrobe, and also entices others to join the leather rebellion, as we said before, this girl’s got style.
