“Start a Career in Fashion” by New Look
Thursday 8th May was the day of the Start a Career in Fashion event, run by high-street retailer New Look at the Forward 3D head office in London. The event was organised to introduce graduates to the tricks and challenges they will face in the fashion industry and to create a conversation between them and some experienced professionals.
“Fashion is a very fast-paced industry. The advice I would give to fashion students is to be very clear on your expectations; if you are going into an admin position that is starting at the bottom,” says Michelle Leighton, buyer manager at New Look.
Topics covered the importance of a digital portfolio, marketing yourself as a brand and what skills are necessary to succeed in fashion.
For those who couldn’t attend the event, it was streamed on Google + and the official New Look blog site. Social media enthusiasts could also follow the conversation on Twitter, using #NLcareersevent.
Speakers included celebrity bespoke tailor and designer Joshua Kane, Julian Fuller, head of design for men’s clothing and accessories at Debenhams and New Look head of e-commerce, Sally Heath.
