Hippy weddings with a dash of Game of Thrones
With wedding season well and truly upon us, it’s high time we indulge ourselves a little bit by checking out the favourite trends. As ever, the glorious entity that is the “hippy wedding” has made its delicious comeback, specifically in the form of Poppy Delevingne wearing this beautiful piece at her wedding earlier this summer. Brides looking to veer away from the well-trodden track of diamanté strapless gowns paired with sky-high stilettos, continue to find solace in floral headbands, delicate lace ballet pumps and understated lace – more and more now we are seeing a twist.
To be honest, we’re all for it! It brings back some of the gritty uniqueness of a wedding without losing femininity, and it gives the look a level of etherealness that has been lost from traditional wedding styles. Opinion varies on the topic of weddings massively. Some opt for glitz and glamour, fake eyelashes and an abundance of petticoats; others feel more connected to the historical side of things. Wholesome, fresh-faced and naturally beautiful: this use of accessories and styling to create a look somewhere between the two extremes is welcome indeed.
Headwear is a huge indicator of a wedding day look. There’s the traditional veil, the fresh flower halo and the sparkling tiara – graceful, not too over the top and hints at a fairytale history. The belt below brings a much desired warmth and colour to the bleak white of a simple wedding dress. White can often be extremely draining to the complexion, and gold is a great yet underrated colour to bring up the temperature.
Hairdos inspired by Game of Thrones’ Daenerys Targaryen have taken the world by storm and not just in a wedding setting. Women have started learning how to manipulate their long tresses into intricate knots and we love it! It really shows effort and elegance, and for the budget babes out there, it’s a free accessory! With all that hair detail going on, there is no need to fork out for hair accessories or statement jewellery. Simple and understated pieces would be perfect for enhancing this style. There are plenty of tutorials on YouTube, so definitely give it a go.
