Desigual catwalk show report for NYFW S/S 2015
It’s hard not to say something nice about Desigual’s new S/S 2015 collection presented on the first day of New York Fashion Week at Lincoln Center in New York City. But don’t be mistaken, the collection is nothing nice as in plain “nice”, it’s gushing with vibrant colours, flowers, energy and sensuality.
The show opened and closed with Brazilian supermodel Adriana Lima, who was the shining star of the show. Noticed at the front row were Rosario Dawson and fashionistas Olivia Palermo and Cara Delevingne’s sister Poppy Delevingne.
For the spring/summer collection Desigual worked with French fashion designer Monsieur Christian Lacroix and the result is a kaleidoscope of colour, fresh and bold floral themes, sophisticated headpieces crowning the models, colourful shoes and bags. Desigual stays true to itself and the new collection screams freedom, adventure, dare and a bit of recklessness. And of course it is insanely flirtatious.
The diversity of patterns, from Hawaiian prints and Indian motifs to lush Mexican colours, was visually stimulating and the colourful shoes used for the collection looked sexy and oddly comfortable.
The models owned the runway and some of them had cute little signs that said “I love photographers,” “Happy to be here,” “Looking for boyfriend,” and one model even wore a hand written “kiss me” on her leg, which you could see through the slit in her black and white skirt that screamed of abstraction and uneven shapes.
At the end the models threw flower petals in the crowd, blowing kisses and all smiles as they did the final round. The show was over in a flash but the after-effect of the vibrant mosaics of colour lingered for much longer.
