Balfron Season at Balfron Tower

Designed by the iconic Ernö Goldfinger, Balfron Tower is a listed building; before it’s refurbished, in partnership with Bow Arts Trust, the Tower has been temporarily converted into an intimate exhibition space. Until October, Balfron Season is open to the public for free. Several flats with resident artists are opening their doors to showcase their work.

This gathering of art, architecture and design celebrates the diversity of London with this tower as a base for inspiration. Many of the projects are by resident artists, without necessarily meaning to change the stigmatised view of social housing. The space that each artist has created is entirely unique to their own vision. Curated by the artists, Balfron Season allows them to display the space in which they live and create, this makes a very humble and intimate feel. Remembering that for many this is living space as well as work space, not every door is open for the public to browse.

Balfron Season does not display a single medium, it offers a range of arts and activities to partake in such as a printing workshop due to be lead by Leonie Lachlan and the Swishing at the Cabin, a swap shop – both on 13^th September. The main event is the open studio, where the resident artists open their doors and allow the public to view their work. Fake Phoney Reality by Chris Daly demonstrates urban life from around the world, from Camden to Venice: the vibrant colours and urban shots depict life in London through the different stages of lives, nature, and colours.

The entire experience of Balfron Season pays homage to the former and present tenants of Balfron Tower through the differences within the artists works. No two rooms are the same, each has an individual approach to how they wish to display their work and the style content is all different. The individuality of the art and artists culminate to represent the ever-changing idea of what it is to live in London.
