Burberry Prorsum catwalk show report for LFW S/S 2015

Inside a greenhouse decorated with magical colours and insect illustrations, the SS15 Burberry Prorsum show went underway this afternoon. The inspiration was Insects of Britain and Wild Flowers, two phrases painted not only onto the catwalk floor which was similarly decorated to the building but also on a selection of the collection itself.

 

The front row wasn’t the only collection of people that were star-studded, the catwalk was filled with the crème de la crème of models: Malaika Firth opened the show, Sam Rollinson, Charlotte Wiggins, Binx, Jourdann Dunn and Suki Waterhouse were just a few of the shining stars who walked for Christopher Bailey’s Burberry as Anna Wintour, Hamish Bowles, Cara Delevingne and Kate Moss looked on.

The collection was one which brought not only images of insects and flowers to the mind, but also of garden nymphs and fairies: tulle and chiffon were huge players throughout and created a wispy and feminine look to the whole collection. Femininity was also portrayed through the silhouettes that hugged the models’ petite frames and emphasised their nipped in waists. However, it is clear to see you don’t have to be dragonfly thin in order for this collection to be flattering. High waisted, hip hugging skirts were paired with cropped jackets in order to emphasise an hour glass silhouette on any woman who wears it. The 50s silhouette was clearly an inspiration, though far from pastiche, as there was no corsetry or bras here, just the right cuts and material to flatter as much as possible.

 

As James Bay, the soothing musician, played live with his guitar, models glided down the catwalk in the most wonderful of flats. Brightly coloured trainers and skimpy sandals told us once again we have a season devoid of heels. The use of flats gave a lightness to the models’ walks so much so that it emphasised the feeling of freedom, playfulness and a natural air to the looks.

 

It was not only necessarily light materials throughout, Bailey also used a selection of denim, shearling and latex, which all gave different impressions of nature, bugs and plant stalks. It was a refreshing take on Springs usual florals and so allowed us all a sigh of relief that we finally have a collection celebrating nature that isn’t reminiscent of last year’s.
