The best ways to add a new touch of life into your home
We are taught that change can be both good and bad; it all depends on the situation. But when it comes to decorating rooms, change is something that should be encouraged. Whether you feel it’s time, you’re bored with how your room currently looks or you might have found a new design or colour that you think would fit the space much better, we can safely say change is good.
There a lot of different ways you can re-decorate a room, it all depends on what you want to achieve with the change. Additionally, if you’ve saved with the purpose to revamp, you have even more opinions available to you.
Make the room your own
One of the main reasons you might want to redecorate is that a room lacks character; it is a hollow space despite the furnishings. You want to redecorate so that it gains an identity and becomes a pleasure to be in. By adding a personalised touch to the room through the use of things like photos you can give a room a more relaxed and homely tone. Not to mention great reminders of a life well spent. Alternatively, Jonny’s Sister sells a great range of personalised home and kitchen ware items such as biscuit tins, gardening buckets and quirky signs; any one of these items will be sure to give your room a new lease of life and make it seem fun. What’s more, each item is unique making your redecorating that extra special.
Change the way you look at the room
Lighting is one of the main features of a room, one that can adapt and mould any space. You can change the lighting, light shades and blinds to change how your room is viewed, making dark dreary rooms suddenly seem much livelier. Adding an ambience when brightly colour rooms are viewed in low light levels or floor lamps can create light in spaces that need it for working or reading. Put an emphasis on a particular area of the room and use lighting as a new expressive centrepiece.
Freshen it up with some new plants
Placing vases filled with flowers on tables and around the room is extremely popular and can add a fresh feel and sometimes even a nice aroma to a room to temporarily make it feel different and vibrant. Why not take this one step further and buy a nice large potted plant or small potted tree to add something new to the room. They are great at filling in awkward floor spaces or empty corners to add that finishing touch that every room needs and they don’t need to be replaced on a regular basis like normal flowers. Just be careful when buying floor or potted plants for any room as they might be toxic, so be weary if you have small children or pets.
Buy some new furniture
Changing the layout is a very effective way to liven up a room. It can feel like a completely different space. You can buy some new furniture, swap around the sofas or change your bed so it is now in the centre of the room. Before you start moving heavy furniture, and doing your back in in the process, you should measure the walls and every piece of furniture you might want to include and cut out smaller, to-scale versions so you can mess around with where to put everything. This is actually more fun than it sounds and means that when it comes to moving around the furniture you know exactly where it is going, saving you a considerable amount of time and effort.
Re-paint the walls
The easiest way to change a room is suspiciously simple, but it’s no trick! Just a new lick of paint could be all you need, as well as a few personalised extras along the way. There are obviously a large number of colours to choose from so make sure to buy some testers of your favourites so you can see how they look on the walls.
Just remember to do any testing in a hidden, conspicuous areas encase the colour really doesn’t match the room and you’re left with more work. Wallpaper also works when it comes to decorating the walls and there are some really unique, stylish designs that can look really nice, depending on the room. If you’re feeling adventurous you can even experiment with having two different colours, having each pair of walls facing each other painted a different colour. This is by no means necessary but something you can look into if you want to make your room even more unique.
Inject life with some new colours
Adding a new, bright splash of colour is a great way to liven up a room and make it feel new, fresh and exciting. Obviously painting the walls a bright colour can work but this can sometimes be overpowering and a bit too much so it’s best to stay away from doing this. A better way to achieve the same results would be to buy some new brightly coloured furniture, whether it’s a nice red sofa or some stylish blue chairs they can all make a room look more lively and exciting. Be careful not to go over the top as too much can colour can be a bad thing in something as big as a room but a small touch can go a long way to improve how it looks.
