The BAFTAs 2015: Best and worst dressed

At Sunday’s BAFTA event in London’s Covent Garden, many of the biggest stars in film wowed in gorgeous dresses.

Upcoming Bond girl Léa Seydoux, gave a nod to the golden age of Hollywood in her canary yellow custom-made Prada dress, which she teamed with a bold red lip. The silk-georgette dress featuring capped-sleeves and waist cut-outs oozed old school glamour, making her one of the best dressed on the night

Best actress nominee Reese Witherspoon, pushed herself out of her comfort zone and traded knee-length feminine dresses for extreme cleavage in a bold, flattering purple get-up, courtesy of British designer Stella McCartney.

 

 

 

It was an all round winning night for Julianne Moore who took home the Best Actress accolade and stunned on the red carpet too. Like fellow state-sider Witherspoon, Moore’s Tom Ford gown featured extreme cleavage and a thigh-high slit, whilst its shade of beautiful red complimented her auburn locks perfectly.

Brit actress Rosamund Pike opted for a classy and elegant look in a black halter neck Roland Mouret dress. The sophisticated dress showed off her fabulous slimline figure, just nine weeks after giving birth to her second child.

However despite teams of stylists, hairdressers and make-up artists at their disposal, many celebrities failed to impress due to ill-fitting gowns, cheap looking fabrics and bizarre accessories.

Nadia Forde was just one of many whose outfit left little to be desired. White can be a difficult colour to pull off at the best of times, but combine it with an ill-fitting dress made of a cheap looking satin fabric, it is best to be avoided at all costs. To make matters worse, the leg slit is also a tad too high!

Natalie Dormer was one star that also failed to impress with the bizarre addition of her lace fingerless gloves. Although a nod to the 80s, they had no place at the BAFTA event. The gloves were key to ruining an otherwise acceptable red carpet look.

Colour blocking has been a big trend in recent months, but actress Romola Garai’s attempt needs some work. Her peachy pastel toned vision, courtesy of designer Roksanda Ilincic, is unflattering on her slight frame and looks more suited to a summer tea party than a glamorous evening event.

Finally, Countdown presenter Rachel Riley was another to fall foul due to a bizarre accessory. The faux-fur shrug, unnecessary shoulder detail and the suspect green satin proved a rather poor choice from the usually stunning presenter.
