Jorge Arteaga catwalk show report for NYFW A/W 2015

Jorge Arteaga, a young New York-based designer, presented his Autumn/Winter 2015 collection at the Central Studio in the Garment District. His newest work recreates the classic look with clean silhouettes and timeless femininity spiced by the spirit of revolt and rebellion.

Arteaga is not afraid to experiment and in his collection he puts together classic material such as wool with ethereal, freely floating organza. Mixing texture and colour, sensuality and clean geometrical forms make up Arteaga’s signature style and it has grounded his A/W collection.

The mood of the collection is bold, sensual, elegant yet undeniably aggressive. The dark makeup with an accent on the smokey eyes and almost-noir black lips is fierce and not easily forgettable: it challenges and seduces.

The prevalence of separates in the collection allows the designer to play with the contrast between comfort and sensuality adding slight touches to make it mysterious yet grounded in reality. A lot of the collection looks like it is ready to be taken to the streets. The dresses, rendered in black with a splash of lush red, are shapely without being confining, still allowing the wearer to move freely.

The freedom and playfulness are seen in the golden, tight pants paired with a silky black shirt and a grey asymmetrical cardigan that are reminiscent of the 1980s style. But the hit of the collection was the mid-length white dress with a delicate chiffon top, exposed back and a provocative slit in the front of the dress accentuating femininity. As Jorge said, it would be the dress to wear on a romantic date on Valentine’s day.
