A Détacher catwalk show report for NYFW A/W 2015

A Détacher kicked off fashion week on February 13^th at the suitably minimalist Pier 59 Studios in Manhattan. Designer Mona Kowalska favored a drastically different aesthetic from her darker, more macabre autumn/winter 2014 collection. The soft, clement feel of her latest creations seem to intentionally juxtapose the bitter chill of February.

Kowalska presented vibrant and earthy colors ranging from warm browns to bold oranges and reds. The color palette complimented the winter lines, motif and textures beautifully, and whether the fabric was suede or silk, A Détacher collection paid consistent homage to movement of material and uniformity in chosen patterns. The models, donned natural looks, save for the feminine statement of winged tip eyes and full feathery up-dos that looked both effortless and over the top.

The collection as a whole, felt inspired by history, from the last summer of the 1960s to the momentum of the feminist movement in the early 1970s. In a fitting conclusion to the show, Etta James’ I’d Rather Go Blind was playing for the final collective trip down the catwalk, further perpetuating a sense of retro nostalgia that was so artfully depicted throughout the collection.
