Mark and Estel catwalk show report for NYFW A/W 2015
Aptly titled Stairway to the Stars, Mark and Estel’s A/W 2015 collection is an emphatic celebration of the individual. Inspired by their latest rock album of the same name, the duo brought a progression of their signature rocker-chic look to the runway with bold plaid prints, fishnets and leather accessories paired with sleek equestrian-themed separates.
The theme of the moment was “everyone is a fashion rockstar”. Working exclusively with cotton, Mark and Estel juxtaposed everyday basics with striking statement pieces. A black long-sleeved T-shirt was paired with high-waisted plaid trousers and wide-brimmed sunhat, while a flowing ivory jumpsuit was teamed with a structured black cape. Elsewhere, a white blouse sporting a pattern of red lips was matched with a cropped riding jacket and sheer mini-skirt.
Cape dresses were revisited, with a belted red mini paired with fishnet stockings and a black fedora. Alongside separates, the collection showcased several statement dresses: an ivory, gypsy maxi-dress featuring a low-slung belt gained particular attention, while a lightweight trench-coat gown with a high slit added a hint of 70s-inspired glamour.
As always, no Mark and Estel show is complete without a performance from the duo, who played one of their latest songs, while reminding the audience: “You are all fashion rock stars”.
