Known for his extravagant furs and ball gowns, Dennis Basso added a hint of 70s flair to his usual style in his autumn/winter 2015 collection. Inspired by the glamour of the disco-era, from London’s Annabelle to New York’s Studio 54, Basso showcased sleek gold velvets paired with luxurious lynx, fox and chinchilla fur coats.
Trimmed with leather, dyed and in some cases camouflaged, fur certainly played a prominent role in Basso’s showing. Sporting a relaxed fit, the coats topped hand embroidered dresses, velvet tunics and wool pants. Accessories included fringed shoulder bags and thin silk scarves, adding to the disco feel.
As usual, Basso’s talents shone in his evening wear, which featured gold lame gowns paired with plum chinchilla coats. A scarlet jacquard gown was coupled with a matching cropped chinchilla vest. For the most part, the collection stuck to classic silhouettes, with flattering cinched waists and flowing skirts.
Basso also drew attention with his elegant day wear which saw wool trousers with black and charcoal colour-blocking matched with a sable and crocodile jacket, whilst an ivory jumpsuit was paired with citrine-coloured chinchilla.
While the abundance of fur may not appeal to all, though several celebrities, including Rihanna and Mary J. Blige were to be spotted in the front row, Basso’s form-flattering designs certainly bring with them a seductive air of luxury.
