Orla Kiely collection presentation for LFW A/W 2015

Being set in “the library” couldn’t have been more apt for the studious-inspired collection by Orla Kiely. Drawing inspiration from Ali MacGraw in the 1960s film Love Story, this preppy look was perfectly mirrored in the new season, bringing simplicity back to fashion.

As always, print was very important for Kiely; maths and geometry added to patterns creating ballroom dancing prints, graph-like paper checks and bold block colours, giving even more of a university impression. Clean cut layering was also seen: buttoned-up cardigans paired with pussy bow blouses, and camel mini skirts worn with shirts and fluffy jumpers. Certain romanticism was portrayed throughout the clothing – a love of being noticed for intelligent style.

The designer’s initials “OK” were entwined into prints adorning clothing and accessories; adding to the other varying sizes of structures and shapes which created a bold aesthetic. The accessories were also far from understated with supersized frame bags to mini box backpacks which created a signature look for the whole collection.

Overall, Kiely has given an autumn collection that won’t go down unnoticed, and in the brand’s own words: “It may all be quiet in the library, but the bold bright collection is anything but.” Mary Jane shoes are definitely back.
