Anrealage catwalk show report | PFW A/W 2015
At first glance, it was difficult to see if the designers of the Japanese cult label had designed anything at all for their autumn/winter collection. But as the show began, Kunihiko Morinaga, the creative director of the brand, created an unexpected supernatural illusion.
As they returned for their second show in Paris, extravagant cuts and printed textures visible only under UV light were the main attraction of Anrealage’s collection; the crowds were wowed by the supernatural theme that transported them to a whole new dimension. Models glided through the room as if “spaced out,” whilst painted all black and topped with sculpted brain-models moulded around their heads. Anrealage was a complete contrast to some of the other shows that Paris Fashion Week has seen.
The collection and its patterns were presented by a small circle spotlight, inspired by the Japanese flag, a nod to the label’s patriotism. However, it was hard to determine the look that Anrealage was going for due to the unusual lighting. Despite a few coloured patterns emerging towards the end of the show, most of the collection was monochrome, accessorised with bold textures.
The theme of the show created an eerie and mysterious atmosphere, as the unexpected was anticipated. As the show closed, it was evident that Anrealage certainly kept the audience on its toes and definitely wanting more.
