Dropkick Murphys at Irving Plaza

With St. Patrick’s Day just around the corner, the Boston band Dropkick Murphys did what they do best … perform another jam-packed show. Dropkick Murphys have mastered several solid albums of a unique brand of Celtic-rooted punk rock, but it isn’t until the live show that the band’s raucous, lively sound and personality can fully be realized. Irish pride rang throughout the venue and the concert was a great kick-off for the upcoming St. Patrick’s Day. 

The group rocked into Irving Plaza on 8^th March for the opening night of their three-day NYC performance of their Celtic Punk Invasion Tour, and over the course of 95 loud and brazen minutes, delivered a set that spanned their entire 19-year career. The band went on to play the hits, both old and new, keeping the energy going with crowd-pleasers such as Rose Tattoo and The Boys Are Back.

The night’s highlight, however, came late in the set with Shipping Up to Boston, possibly the band’s most famous and notable song. All the bands from the night, Bryan McPherson, members of Blood or Whiskey and The Mahones, made their way on stage to perform the legendary song. Safe to say the crowd got rowdy. In keeping with tradition, the band invited the ladies in the crowd to join them onstage as they played their first encore, followed by their second and third. 

Overall, their stage production, clean performance, and massive amount of enthusiastic fans made for an absolutely amazing show. The band has an amazing way of connecting to their audience and keeping the crowd going wild throughout their entire set. Job well done.
