Myia Bonner is a diamond in the rough

Myia Bonner designs structural jewellery in an attempt to explore the realms of craft, computing, science, nature and the relationships they share. Bonner indulges in simplicity, constantly repeating a single element but applying various methods of construction by mixing traditional craftsmanship with modern technology.

Bonner is by no means a beginner: she has built up an impressive collection of qualifications. In 2005 she studied fashion, art and design at Esher college and went on to complete a foundation course at the prestigious Surrey institute; and finally, Bonner graduated with a Jewellery Bachelor of Arts from Middlesex University. Armed with these, as well as vital hands on industry experience, Bonner  won the Econe unsigned competition where they labelled her work as ‘wearable and compelling’.

Along with designing her own collection, Bonner has been selected to join the British jewellery makers invited by the Association of Contemporary Jewellery to design pieces to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. Bonner admits that it was her obsession with world-play and punnery that lead to her collection being based around the iconic diamond, its unique form and how we identify and think of it.

Within her collection Bonner has strived to challenge people’s preconceptions and most common associations. She crafts each piece by hand, using angles, shapes and graphic forms. She gives each and every diamond a rare and unique quality, similar to the stone that her collection pays homage to.

The Diamond Collection features necklaces, earrings, pendants and rings, available in stirling silver, blackened oxidised silver, in gold or rose gold plating.
