Echosmith at Heaven
Echosmith have released several covers of popular songs over the past couple of years, but now with a full album under their belt and a solid band of supporters, the four siblings are really coming into their own.
Taking to the stage at Heaven, Echosmith open with the upbeat Let’s Love. This bounding tempo is maintained throughout by bouncy songs from the band’s 2013 album Talking Dreams, the racy bass sending vibrations through the atmospheric underground tunnels. It’s clear what the crowd’s favourite songs are, as everyone cheers and applauds enthusiastically along to Come Together and Tell Her You Love Her.
To break up the fast-paced set, the band performs an acoustic rendition of Bright. The trio of singers stand together, singing a cappella, sharing one microphone; it’s extremely endearing to watch such a musically talented family coming together in harmony. Through their frivolous lyrics, though, as well as the conversations they have with the crowd, Echosmith betray their youth. They appear to have naively romanticised views about life and love, though this doesn’t detract from their entertainment value. Lead singer Sydney, with a voice that’s mature beyond her years, continuously engages the audience by encouraging them to sing along, and when highlighted by the sweeping spotlights, the crowd willingly obeys.
Throughout the evening, the siblings are energetic, uninhibited and have no reservations in dancing passionately about the stage. It’s clear that the music speaks through them, and so it’s a confident and assured performance. Concluding the concert with a bang, Echosmith play Nothing’s Wrong for the encore. As confetti-filled balloons are released into the crowd, Sydney and Noah join in drumming for a dramatic ending to this dynamic performance.
