Rihanna repping British street labels

Rihanna repping British street labels

Rihanna is one of the celebs I most admire in the public eye. Not only has she blown into one of the biggest pop stars this century, but has also carved herself as quite the fashionista and muse. Rihanna is not afraid to cross boundaries and she’s not a stranger to British shores, even braving our public transport and supporting UK designers.

Not only is the Bajan songstress regularly seen in classic British designers’ garments, such as the late Alexander McQueen, but Rihanna has also put the spotlight on up-and-coming raw and talented London-based designers such as Trapstar. Seen at a baseball game where she knew she’d be photographed, Rihanna was wearing a visibly labelled design by the brand: a black hoodie matched with snap back cap and jeans.  And out and about in Hollywood on several occasions, she even shouted out “Trapstar” to papz.

Although it’s known that many brands pay celebs to wear their items, Rihanna wears them voluntarily because she truly is a fan, according to sources. Other celebs to be spotted in the London-based label include: Rita Ora, Teyana Taylor, Travie McCoy and Angela Simmons. I personally love their customised leather jackets; Angela Simmons was seen wearing a hot red one with gold studs and another in electric blue, and Rihanna in classic black.

Another UK brand RiRi has been representing is Boy London. They have seen sales soar since she appeared wearing one of their outfits on the Jonathan Ross show – dressed in a black skirt with white eagle print and Boy logo, with the design reversed on the matching long-sleeved top. As with Trapstar it’s not the first time she has promoted the brand; she also wore their leggings in her You Da One video and posted a picture to her 15.5 million twitter fans in a Boy logo cap.

Trapstar have a store in Portobello Road and their collections are available online. They’ve still got a few of their sexy leather and wool rider biker jackets in black for £225. You can also still get your hands on the signature black hoodie, as seen on Rihanna for only £65.  For exclusives and customised items it’s best to pop down to the Portobello Road store, Unit 21, Portobello Green Arcade, London, W10 5TZ or check out their website by clicking here.
