Models turned designers: The best collaborations
Fashion collaborations mean big sales! And while we may be heavily anticipating to see Jourdan Dunn launch her own kids and adult collection, she’s far from the only model to follow into the footsteps of a designer. Over the past few years it has become a trend for models to design their own clothing, from underwear to footwear, so here is a list of the best collections and collaborations so far.
Kate Moss for Topshop
All hail Ms Moss! Ever since Sir Philip Green welcomed the much-loved British model and fashion icon into the Topshop team with open arms back in 2007, the brand has become an international success. Her adored effortlessly glam collections have been selling in over 40 countries.
Rosie Huntington-Whitely for Marks & Spencer
The former Victoria Secret’s model started designing a range of luxurious lingerie in 2012, which has since become a huge success. Business has been booming for iconic British retailer Marks and Spencer, with clothing sales starting to gradually rise over the past four years.
The 22-year-old’s collaboration with the British heritage brand has to be one of the most talked about collaborations in fashion history. Cara Delevingne’s capsule of structured handbags come rucksacks, purses and mobile accessories caused a huge media frenzy, ultimately re-shaping Mulberry’s credibility.
Sophie Dahl for Brora
In 2013, the former model teamed up with Brora to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the luxury cashmere brand, designing a range of casual, vintage-inspired cardigans and silk shirt-dresses. The nostalgic capsule collection embodied 1930s English summer fashion, ranging in shades of pale rose, greens and moody greys.
Elle Macpherson for Intimates
Being one of the first supermodels, the 51-year-old Australian beauty had been planning to collaborate with Brendon Apparel back in 1990, subsequently creating successful Intimates collections, notably Men and The Body. Although Heidi Klein has since taken over, Elle’s collections are still arguably noted as one the best lingerie collaborations to date.
Agyness Deyn for Dr Martens
This has to be one of the best suited designer collaborations yet. It seems like the Mancunian fashion model was born to be a spokesperson for the English footwear brand – she’s already launched four collection in the past three years.
Anja Rubik for Giuseppe Zanotti
The Polish beauty managed to bag a deal with Italian shoe designer Giuseppe Zanotti after featuring in one of his campaigns six years prior to their collaboration. She launched a collection filled with glam-punk inspired heels, flats and bags in 2013, receiving an overall positive reception. But is there a chance of her designing a second line? Let’s hope so.
