Met Ball 2015: Best dressed ladies
As the annual Met Ball commenced and celebrities trickled down the red carpet, we couldn’t help but admire the couture, the jewels and the shoes which graced this star-studded event last night. The theme was “China through the looking glass” which made for some inspiring looks.
A definite trend seemed to set the tone for the evening: sheer gowns. Many stars opted for see-through options, giving the illusion of barely-there dresses, leaving little to our wandering imaginations!
So let’s take a look at the Met Ball’s best dressed ladies.
Kate Hudson
The blonde beauty stunned in a gold, floor-length gown with see-through detailing. She accessorised the dress with a 1920s-style embellished headdress and a pearlescent, boxy clutch with gold trim. With her hair in a classy up-do and a bold, red lip, Kate was the epitome of classy elegance.
Kim Kardashian
Continuing with the sheer theme, the Kardashian beauty let her curves do the talking in a revealing white, feathered, embellished gown by Roberto Cavalli. She kept her look simple with some diamond pendant earrings, a sleek ponytail and natural make-up.
J Lo
It was clear the singer had no qualms about going commando in this stunning, sequined, sheer Versace gown. The floor-length dress featured a dragon, highlighting her curves perfectly – the night’s Chinese theme definitely came through in her red carpet choice!
Carey Mulligan
This English rose kept her look simple and poised with a black number from Balenciaga. The trapeze-style dress with an embellished collar looked perfect with a coiffed up-do and a dark lip.
Jennifer Lawrence
Jennifer Lawrence looked girly and chic in a black and floral number. The cut-out dress from the Dior autumn/winter 2015 collection was perfectly on trend and paired with her relaxed, messy bun, J Law let her natural beauty lead the way.
Beyonce
The bootylicious singer competed with J Lo and Kim Kardashian for the most revealing dress award! Donning a bejewelled custom-made Givenchy gown, Queen B left little to the imagination in this backless number.
Unfortunately, not all attendees were able to get their outfits quite right and some serious fashion faux-pas ensued, here’s our favourite of the worst: we really don’t know what Rihanna was thinking with this duvet-inspired outfit.
