Shake Shack opens latest London branch in Westfield Stratford City
American burger chain Shake Shack opens its latest London branch on The Street, in the heart of the bustling Westfield Stratford City shopping centre.
Shake Shack is a critically acclaimed, modern day roadside burger stand known for its 100% all-natural, antibiotic-free Angus beef burgers, griddled flat-top dogs, fresh-made frozen custard, crispy crinkle cut fries and more.
“Over the past two years we’ve been amazed with the reception Londoners have given Shake Shack in Covent Garden,” said Randy Garutti, Shake Shack CEO. “Since that time, we’ve worked hard to further our connection to local purveyors and artisanal producers who make our all-natural burgers and made-fresh daily frozen custard menu what it is. We look forward to opening our second UK Shack and connecting with the Stratford community.”
Last night’s launch party showed off the latest forward-thinking architecture that fans around the world have grown to love. The unique interior design features recyclable and sustainable materials including table tops made from reclaimed bowling alleys handcrafted in Brooklyn and reclaimed wall panelling from water tanks that once topped buildings across the NYC skyline. Like all Shacks, this location features energy-efficient kitchen equipment and lighting.
The menu features Shake Shack favorites including the ShackBurger, SmokeShack, Shroom Burger and Shack-cago Dog. In line with Shake Shack’s commitment to achieve the highest product standards, burgers are made with freshly ground 100% Scottish Aberdeen Angus beef. Shake Shack’s much-lauded ShackBurger is made with cheese, fresh lettuce, tomato, ShackSauce, and finished with a buttered, toasted, soft potato roll. Shake Shack’s unique take on a bacon burger, SmokeShack, features British free-range Wiltshire cure smoked bacon, chopped cherry peppers and ShackSauce. The flat-top dog section of the menu features a London-only Cumberland sausage handmade by Sillfield Farm using rare breed pork from Cumbria as well as the ShackMeister Sausage (Cumberland pork sausage topped with cheese sauce and crispy ShackMeister Ale-marinated shallots).
The menu also includes a complete craft beer and wine list, with a cold ShackMeister Ale – available on tap and brewed exclusively for Shake Shack by Thornbridge Brewery. Toast with a range of varietals including house wines Shack Red (surprisingly good) and Shack White – bottled exclusively for Shake Shack by Lafage in Languedoc-Roussillon, France. For those seeking a non-alcoholic beverage, the menu will feature Shack-made lemonade, bottled root beer from Abita Brewing Co, and more.
Shake Shack’s frozen custard – dense, rich and creamy ice cream spun fresh daily – features in shakes and concretes (frozen custard blended at high speed with mix-ins). The Westfield Stratford City Shack will be spinning up three location-specific concretes blended with mix-ins derived from local partners: Peanut Butter CrunchCrete (chocolate custard, St John Bakery chocolate hazelnut brownie, peanut butter sauce and chocolate toffee), East End Pie Oh My (vanilla custard and a slice of Flour Power bramley apple pie) and Banana Pretzel Pudding (vanilla custard, paul.a.young chocolate covered pretzels, caramel sauce, fresh banana and maldon salt).
Shake Shack will work alongside The London Lions basketball team and E20 Community & Cultural Interest Organisation. Moreover, this opening will create over 100 new jobs. “This is an area of London where we can really help to make a difference and continue Shake Shack’s mission to stand for something good,” says Nigel Sherwood, business director of Shake Shack UK.
