Several collection presentation | LCM S/S 2016
Just a road away from the hustle and bustle that is Oxford Street, editors and bloggers crammed into the Rook and Raven gallery this morning to see Graeme Fidler’s second collection for his label Several.
Big things are expected as his debut collection presented in January this year is now stocked in Selfridges and soon to be available at MR PORTER. The open white space was lit brightly, despite the grey, drizzly weather just outside. Retro inspirations were clear, from the orange and white racetrack markers across the floor to the portraits of racing legends plastered onto the wall alongside the word “VROOOOOM”. The 2013 film Rush, a racing drama based on the lives of James Hunt and Niki Lauda, springs to mind.
The colour palette was kept fairly neutral: beige, white and navy along with a few dusty blues, lemons and pale greens added to the vintage feel. Flashes of bright red were splashed here and there; a polo neck just poking out of a smart trench or even a pillar-box red bomber jacket.
Silhouettes were modish; ankle-grazing, straight leg style trousers paired with a fitted shirt or polo and a weather-proof jacket or trench. Interesting details came in the form of oversized pockets and excess zip fasteners, reminiscent of the sportswear worn by the racers. Hints of tartan and British heritage checks appeared in shirts worn by the fresh-faced models who all wore their hair neatly combed to the side. All the looks were paired with either .canvas plimsolls in navy or white, or shiny black leather loafers.
The main focal point of influence for the collection was the British F1 heritage surrounding the country in the late sixties. The collection has a juxtaposition of the technical, lightweight sportswear worn in the cockpit and the masculine, mod styles worn by spectators in the grandstands. The outcome is a collection of understated, wearable pieces with a retro vibe, ideal for the fashion-informed and style-conscious man.
