Oliver Spencer catwalk collection | LCM S/S 2016

Oliver Spencer showed off his spring/summer 2016 collection, entitled Harmonious Discord, today at the Old Sorting Office on New Oxford Street.

The tone of the popular event was set by the imposing venue. The pitch black outer walls were a stark contrast to the colourfully-dressed audience, which filled up the dark showroom floor. Initially, the room was lit by nothing aside from two dim cubic installations, creating a tense and excited atmosphere.

When the lights turned up, musical accompaniment Q String’s live performance began; the quartet’s upbeat melodies brought a real energy to the show. The collection started off with a variety of burgundy suits, before transitioning into some earthy shades of green and brown.

The collection then turned to lighter wear, with predominantly dark clothes featuring bold graphic prints used as accents. Striped clothes featured prominently, often contrasting horizontal with vertical patterns to create a juxtaposed and dynamic look – a personal favourite of ours.

A jet-black outfit with large, bright floral designs also turned heads, its reserved shape brilliantly at odds with the extravagant designs. Also noteworthy was a black, high-collared bomber jacket paired with light grey shorts. The collection contained rucksacks in suede and pebble grain leather, combining style and practicality for the outgoing summer man, which complemented long outdoor jackets.

Though Spencer chose predominantly muted, moody colours, which is an interesting decision for summer wear, the balance between light shorts and T-shirts and heavier outerwear made for a well-rounded and full-bodied collection. These clothes are sure to make a big impression on the summer fashion scene in 2016.
