Hilton London Syon Park: Kallima Spa review
Situated within the leafy suburbs of Isleworth, seven miles southwest of the capital, the grand Hilton London Syon Park, set within the picturesque 200 acre Syon House estate, offers a soothing respite from urban stress.
Welcoming staff accompany guests from the eclectic hotel reception, to the basement-level Kallima Spa. Here, a candlelit corridor leads to compact changing rooms, where fluffy gowns and slippers await. The extensive spa menu includes signature treatments, such as Passage of Traditions and Tranquillity Body Ritual, detoxifying body scrubs and wraps, luxury beauty treatments, and a range of made-to-measure massages and facials for both men and women.
We opted for the Comfort Touch Back Massage. Before treatment began, an amiable therapist took time to discuss health histories and any particular back problems, ensuring manipulation was safe and tailored specifically to our needs. The 30-minute massage was excellent: the masseuse did a brilliant job of targeting stress points, working wonderfully scented oils through tight muscle groups in a firm but relaxing manner, as calming music softly played.
Later, we spent some time enjoying the rest of the spa facilities, flitting between the 15m swimming pool (complete with subdued lighting, recliners and fresh fruit), Jacuzzi, sauna, steam room and fully-equipped fitness centre. It was a lovely environment to unwind in; by the end of the afternoon, we felt mentally and physically relaxed and rejuvenated.
Afternoon tea provides a sumptuous treat following the spa, whilst for those with more of an appetite, there is the impressive Marco Pierre White Steakhouse. The hotel’s contemporary bar stocks a broad range of vodkas, rums and single malts, as well as serving snacks, and live music can be heard on Friday nights.
We ordered light bites, which did take an awfully long time to arrive. Nevertheless, the sandwiches and fries were beautifully presented and of adequate taste – the latter even came in their own copper mini-saucepan.
Allowing time to experience the charm of the estate is a must – try some of the recreational activities, including walking and jogging on the grounds, archery, croquet and fishing. There are stunning gardens to be explored and hotel visitors are permitted to enter Syon House Great Conservatory, dating back to the 1830s.
Our afternoon at the Kallima Spa went by rather quickly; at the end we were reluctant to leave and embrace the outside world once more. Yet the Hilton London Syon Park, which seemed a lifetime away from the metropolis, is within easy reach of home for many casual visitors. We will return!
