Australian-based label Rebecca Vallance was one of the first collections of New York Fashion Week to be viewed in the wonderfully open space of Skylight at Clarkson Square. Now based in New York, Rebecca Vallance is frequently worn by celebrities such as Halle Berry, Sofia Vergara and January Jones. She is known for focusing her designs on highlighting the elegance and natural curves of a woman’s body. Vallance’s Spring/Summer 2016 show did not, by any means, disappoint.
Standing out in the collection and opening the show was 20-year-old model Chantal Monaghan wearing a two-piece jumpsuit in bright orange. Chic and effortlessly classy, the pants heavily hung down to the floor, covering the model’s feet completely in an homage to the 70s. The rest of the collection took on a more timeless quality, complete with neutral black or nude stilettos on every model to focus the crowd’s attention on the feature presentation.
The majority of ensembles were in solid colors of orange, purple, red, black and white. Subtle yet striking, many dresses hugged the waistlines of the models, and came out either at the calves or thighs in a classic mermaid-like fashion.
Dark maroon leather dresses were perfectly placed in the collection to offer a sexy contrast to the more conventional pieces. Vallance also presented tropical-printed dresses, still coming out from the waist to graze the calves, but letting some skin show at the stomach, bringing a more playful and tropical element to the collection. Vallance kept true to her classic A-lines, silky and leather fabrics, leaving the audience wanting to take a dress home for themselves.
