The Dennis Basso S/S 2016 collection was not a show to miss, from glamorous getups to beautifully embroidered gowns, Basso impressed the crowd with his stunning creations. Inspired by women “south of the border”, Basso envisioned his designs to represent strong and alluring women from South and Central America. And by no means did he fail to do so.
His use of bold prints, bright colors, and crystal embellishments in combination with his legendary textured furs and intricate laces brought his creations to life. In this year’s collection, he incorporated sheer and neutral-colored materials layered under impressive floral embroidery.
Many of his dresses featured hand cut outs, low v-necks, and high slits. High-cut shorts have also been extremely prevalent on the runways this year and Basso contributes to the trend in an amazing way by incorporating floral patterns and laces to his shorts. From wrap tops, handkerchief skirts, and drop-waist dresses, Basso’s collection displayed an array of pieces appealing to a variety of tastes. He used waist belts to take in some of the oversized articles, and paired many of his dresses with a colorful fur shrug or leather mini. He lined the seams of many of his dresses and jackets in his amazing furs and created incredible contrasts between the different materials. Only Basso would be able to perfectly execute the combining of fur, crocodile, and linen in a single piece, and with elegance.
