Naeem Khan’s stunning S/S 2016 collection featured a variety of alluring jumpsuits, mini, midi, and maxi dresses, free-flowing capes, and beautifully adorned gowns. Inspired by iconic stars from the 50s and 60s like Sophia Loren, Grace Kelly, and Jackie Kennedy, Khan created a collection unlike any other.
From beginning to end, the show was filled with bright spring colors such as coral pink, electric blue, red, and lots of yellow. A noticeable ombré trend persisted throughout the show, seen on various cocktail dresses, jumpsuits, and gowns. Khan’s incredible use of beaded embellishments and lace embroidery demonstrated his knack for creating unique, one of a kind pieces.
Clearly an expert with lace, he decorates neutral and black dresses with intricate lace embroidery in floral and paisley patterns. Khan delicately incorporates thigh-high slits, sheer materials and silks into his work, adding a splash of sexiness to his simpler and more conservative gowns.
Other trends seen on the runway were one-shoulder necklines, oversized ruffles, resort wear caftans, and satin bias-cut gowns. Abstract patterns have been all of the hype this week too, and Khan chooses to incorporate cutting-edge stripes into his more casual pieces. From bold-colored springtime wear inspired by women of the South of France to soft and serene looks of the French Impressionists, Khan’s inspirations guided him in creating a jaw-dropping S/S 2016 collection.
