Stella Nolasco catwalk show report for NYFW S/S 2016
Inspired by Puerto Rican poet Jose De Diego’s Pomarosas, Stella Nolasco’s Spring 2016 collection was the epitome of grace and elegance – with a dark side. The color palette reflected that of “plum roses”, with hues of soft pinks and nudes, contrasted with black. Models strutted down the runway at Pier59 studios with a flirty and feminine yet lustful purpose.
The lineup began with delicate, lacey looks; Stella’s trademark fabric. It then transitioned to seductive black satin and fringe ensembles. Stunning gowns embellished with beads and sequins sparkled in the spotlights and spectacular knee-length dresses with layered tulle swished to the rhythm of the music. Backless jumpsuits and plunging necklines added to the dramatic allure.
The hair style was a combination of “ballerina-princess” meets “bohemian-goddess”: a braided top-bun by Prive hair. The models’ high cheek bones were flushed and their brows were gently darkened to frame their eyes. Lips were pretty-in-pink and nails were two-toned, with a light and dark shade of “plum rose”.
Christian Louboutin heels of the highest heights put the final touch to each look, the classic red soles providing a sexy edge. Nude, black and white pumps with red heart accents looked absolutely superb with nude, pink and black layered tulle, dancer-chic dresses.
Each piece was more magnificent than the last, making selecting a showstopper simply impossible. One of the many stand-outs was a sheer nude gown with black lace and polka dot embroidery appeared to be floating across the stage. It swirled gracefully as the model turned at the end of the catwalk, revealing gorgeous button detailing down her spine.
Another memorable look was a white jumpsuit with silver all-over beading, paired with green snake skin pumps. The long, lean model brought the audience to the Caribbean Rainforest of Puerto Rico as she slithered down the runway.
Among the front-row guests were Shawn and Claire Buitendorp from the new VH1 series #twinning, Cory Kennedy, an internet celebrity, Georgina Burke, an Australian plus-size model, Rachel Payne, an entrepreneur, and Jackie Miranne, a VH1 TV host.
The finale was set to a remix to Tove Lo’s High All the Time, enhancing the tone of tainted love, the kind that always keeps us wanting more. And in the blink of an eye, the spotlights dimmed and the house lights rose; it was all over so fast, and Stella certainly kept the audience yearning for more.
