One Aston Martin from Spectre will be for sale – but not for driving
James Bond is famous for three things: his licence to kill, bedding gorgeous women, and his penchant for beautiful cars. The current Bond movie, Spectre, is once again featuring an Aston Martin. This time however it’s tailor-made and therefore extremely exclusive. Only one model will be for sale. If you have already maxed two of your three credit cards, don’t despair just yet. With a bit of creativity, some handicraft skills and a few extra parts for your vehicle, you could (just maybe) get your old Mazda 6 to run as fast as an Aston Martin. Check out the Top Gear clip below for some inspiration.
If you do have the financial means of investing in a spy car, then you shouldn’t plan to actually be chasing villains in tight city streets though. The luxury carmaker plans to auction off one DB10 next year, but the car doesn’t have the necessary road certifications for driving. That means the owner will simply have to place it in their collection and show it off to friends.
This is a shame, because typically, cars made for movies look good on the outside but are not full-featured vehicles. It just doesn’t make sense to produce expensive cars that will quite probably get trashed during the movie-making process.
Spectre, however, is a different story. The Aston Martin DB10 in the film is not a prop car, but a real vehicle with all of the Aston Martin luxury and speed to go with it.
The villain drives a Jaguar C-X75, which is not for sale. The hybrid concept car was unveiled at the 2010 Paris Motor Show, but never went into full production and is now being revived specifically for Bond. Only seven of these Jaguars were created for the film.
Jaguar Land Rover also provided the film with then customised Land Rover Defenders and seven Range Rover Sport SVRs.
James Bond has driven a number of cars over the years. In the Ian Fleming novels on which the films are based, he drove a Bentley. In the movies, he’s driven BMWs, a Lotus Esprit that went underwater and even an AMC Hornet.
However, Aston Martin remains the brand with which the character has become most closely associated with. The vintage DB5 also famously reappeared in Skyfall.
