Kate Moss pays brilliant tribute to David Bowie

This week has been marked by one of the most tragic losses in music history as the Starman of pop rock passed away on Monday morning.

Throughout a long and successful career, David Bowie has been may things – the glam rock alien Ziggy Stardust; Thin White Duke; the lightning face-painted Aladdin Sane; Major Tom in Space Oddity; the mysterious Goblin King in the movie Labyrinth. With his many characters, queer outfits and androgynous looks, Bowie has always been ahead of time, seemingly above earth and humanity. Perhaps he was “just visiting”. 

The world has been mourning the chameleonic singer this week and Kate Moss, one of his dearest and closest friends, found her own personal way to honour him. The model is known for her privacy, and is not one for sharing her opinion on social media, so she she did something that Bowie himself might have appreciated.

On the day of his death, she stepped out on the streets of London wearing a T-shirt featuring an iconic print of the singer. The rest of her look consisted of black pieces with an extravagant twist: a fur coat, hat, trousers and a pair of eccentric and eye-catching metallic chunky platforms, just like the ones that characterised Bowie’s look in the 70s.

Bowie and Moss have shared many memories, from a dozen photoshoots with magazines to that day in 2014 when the supermodel accepted a BRIT Award on behalf of her friend, as he couldn’t make it to the ceremony. On that occasion she wore his 1972 Ziggy Stardust rabbit playsuit and made the speech Bowie asked her to, which in a way explained the bond between the two icons: “In Japanese myth, the rabbits from my old costume that Kate’s wearing live on the moon. Kate comes from Venus and I from Mars, so that’s nice. I’m completely delighted to have a BRIT for being the best male, but I am, aren’t I Kate? I think it’s a great way to end the day.”
