Yuna Yang autumn/winter 2016 collection catwalk show for NYFW

Yuna Yang is the undeniable Goldilocks of New York Fashion Week. Consistently pairing modern prints with classic silhouettes, chic embellishments with kitschy accessories, Yang has a knack for finding that “just right” sweet spot with her designs.

True to form, the South Korean designer presented a playful yet glamorous autumn/winter 2016 collection at the 3 West Club in midtown. Entitled No Borders, the collection had a pertinent social consciousness, with Yang’s Cold War heritage and passion for peace emphasised through deconstructed military uniforms in many of the pieces.

Specific looks included a gold embroidered military jacket paired with mustard pants, and wide military shirts with sheer silk panels. Yang loosely continued the popular seventies trend, with several instances of flared pants, and a plush velvet cape coupled with an organza panel skirt. A “No Borders” wool print suit garnered particular attention, with its combination of slim-fit and broad shoulders. But a brash bomber jacket dress was easily the standout piece of the collection – paired with a peacock necklace, it encompassed the surprising juxtapositions that are the hallmarks of Yang’s inventive style.
