How To Be Single
How To Be Single is almost a surprisingly good comedy. The trailer is less than impressive, but considering the incredible comic talent involved with this movie, it would be wrong not to expect something special.
The magic of How To Be Single probably isn’t that easy to extract in two and a half minutes of clipped scenes. Although it is joke after joke, some of the funniest moments of the movie have a longer set up. On the surface it may seem immature, but it’s damn smart comedy performed by some of the hottest young comedic stars around.
As the title suggests, How To Be Single follows characters who are all between relationships for some reason or another. It’s more than just single-and-loving-it Rebel Wilson teaching single-for-the-first-time Dakota Johnson how to pick up guys. There’s a much deeper and more meaningful answer to the movie title that helps to hold emotional engagement during the odd moments when there’s no joke.
Set in New York, the movie is full of enviable scenes of incredible night life, glistening lights and gorgeous architecture. It’s beautifully shot and shows the backdrop of The Big Apple as the characters hook-up, break-up and live their single lives within the city.
The all-star cast is truly what makes this movie great. Every single actor, from those with major roles to the ones that pop up for just a few moments, can be found heading up all the funniest TV shows and movies of the last few years.
Rebel Wilson can do no wrong. She is undoubtedly one of the funniest actors around and has every opportunity to prove this in How To Be Single. Every cast member is fantastic, but special mentions deserve to go to Alison Brie for her brilliantly comic nervous breakdown and Jason Mantzoukas who, despite having only a small role, provides one of the most hilarious parts of the film.
How To Be Single is a shameless showcase of all the brightest young comedians, doing what they do best. It’s strong, intelligent and incredibly funny.
