Clio Peppiatt autumn/winter 2016 collection presentation for LFW
London-based Clio Peppiatt may be relatively new to the fashion world having only launched her label in 2014 but this womenswear designer needn’t worry about going unnoticed. Having already been featured in leading fashion and lifestyle publications such as Elle and commissioned to work with artist Charlie XCX on her American tour outfits last year, Peppiatt is making a statement when it comes to modern day femininity. Her collections mirror this idea and can easily be spotted through their quirky prints and overall playfulness.
The A/W 2016 presentation Motel Clio exemplified Peppiatt’s zest for challenging concepts of womanhood and maintained her love for textile experimentation at its core. The fabrics spanned from netting and mesh to thick furs and leather. This variety highlights the designer’s desire to explore different ideas of sexuality and further demonstrates her focus on individuality. Some pieces also featured detailed embroidery which was more refined and heavy than the embellishment seen on Peppiatt’s earlier collections. This pointed towards sophistication and glamour, an image which was complimented by the use of black and royal blue hues that gave the pieces a vampy undertone.
Despite revealing a darker side to Peppiatt, Motel Clio maintained the tongue-in-cheek humour that she is becoming known for. The models sported bunny-faced slippers and hard-cased handbags stickered with glittered-lips reminiscent of every 90s girl’s childhood. A matchstick pop art style print was showcased on a girly, ruffle skirt and bell-bottom culottes, adding to the vibrancy and youthfulness of the brand.
