Rudimental at the O2 Arena
With the end of the working week on the horizon, many might feel their energy levels lacking. But this was not the case at the O2 Arena on Thursday night as acclaimed drum’n’bass band, Rudimental, raised the roof and got blood pumping. Celebrating the release of their second studio album, We the Generation, the East London musicians took to the stage in the first leg of their 2016 tour.
Without a moment’s hesitation, the band had the enormous, sold-out venue on their feet with constant, catchy beats. An audience of all ages turned Thursday into Friday through rapturous enjoyment of the energy and music emanating from the stage. Whether sat-down or stood-up, at the front or at the back, it seemed as though everyone was gleefully dancing, proving that Rudimental’s tracks are not only well-crafted but absolutely enjoyable.
The band effortlessly navigated their way through new songs such as Love Ain’t Just a Word and Never Let You Go, as well as some of the much-loved classics from their previous album, including Free. The hour-long performance consistently delivered unceasing vigour, epic vocal chords, talented tunes and mood-boosting light effects to the revved up crowd. When singers Will Heard and Anne-Marie, who collaborated with Rudimental on their latest album, took to the stage to perform Rumour Mill, their powerful voices turned the liveliness up a notch further.
The final segment of the dynamic show built up to an explosive rendition of the instantly recognisable Feel the Love. Silver confetti and coloured ribbons blasted from all sides of the stage while the audience sang along, the band clearly feeling the love from the many voices. The belted-out mass renditions, even without the aid of Rudimental’s musicians, lead to an emotional exclamation from band member, Leon Rolle: “I think we’ve made it”.
The audience screamed in agreement. Rudimental has made it and we are ready for more.
