If anyone can, Connor can! Time for Terry to get a real chance at Molineux

As the heavens opened at Molineux on Sunday afternoon, Wolves’ three year stay in the Premier League came to an abrupt end at the hands of high flying Manchester City.

Terry Connor’s men needed a win to give them any chance of survival but in reality, it would have been delaying the inevitable.

Their last win came on the 4^th December against a Sunderland side that didn’t have a manager and from that point onwards, Wolves never showed the fight or determination to beat the drop. 

Unfortunately, the man who has been used as a scapegoat is Terry Connor.

Connor was put in charge after Mick McCarthy was sacked due to a run of poor form and an embarrassing home defeat at the hands of West Bromwich Albion. 

Steve Morgan and Jez Moxey set out to appoint an experienced manager but ended up going about their business like a comedy double act and here we are today with Wolves rooted to the bottom of the league.

Terry Connor has struggled in the spotlight and his inexperience has shown during this difficult period for the club but despite this, I still believe that he deserves a shot at getting Wolves back in to the top flight. 

Although he used the same tactics as the manager before him, he still introduced a couple of squad players into the first team and he could potentially build a strong Wolves side with hungry, young local talent.

Although Moxey stressed the fact that Wolves would not have to sell their top players, Connor would surely get rid of some of the top earners who offer next to nothing. 

Included in this bracket would be both Roger Johnson and Jamie O’Hara. 

Johnson joined in the summer and was widely thought of as a good solid defender and at one point people were tipping him for an England cap. 

As soon as he put on a Wolves shirt, he turned into Bambi without a thought process; it was as if he had never graced a football pitch in his entire life. 

Further to this, he is the club captain and later on in the season, he turned up to a training session under the influence of alcohol. 

O’Hara has had his moments in a gold shirt but just simply isn’t good enough.  Never have I seen a player in his mid-twenties look as if his legs are pushing well into their seventies.

The money generated from these transfers would allow Connor to bring in some new faces as the club is debt free. If this happened, then they could be better prepared for their next shot at becoming an established Premier League side.  

There is a re building process to be had at the Molineux but if anyone deserves a shot at it, then Terry Connor is your man. 

He was thrown in at the deep end by two businessmen and for that, they should give him an opportunity and allow him to stamp his authority on the squad. 

I am not saying that this should be a sympathy decision because at the end of the day the club comes first but if given the chance, Terry Connor can show people that his 13 years at the club are worth more than relegation from the Premier League.
